Be Teachable

Updated: May 28, 2020

For Paul, nothing was more important than allowing Christ to do whatever He wanted with his life. He was beaten, thrown in jail, and ultimately killed for his faith. After being changed completely by Jesus, he devoted his whole life to serving Him in whatever capacity he was asked to do.

In this passage, he says the words, "I have learned," twice as he is talking about discovering the secret to being content. He went through times when he had much and when he had less. He was free, and then oppressed. He was full, and then hungry. Yet, he kept his focus fixed on Jesus. How?

Paul was teachable. He was willing to lay down his ways of thinking and living so that Christ could teach him a better way. He submitted his mind and heart to the sanctification that happens when you choose to really give Jesus your life. And, he held tightly to the hope he had that Christ would strengthen him in every situation, giving him every thing he needed to fulfil his goal of making Jesus known.

Are you teachable? When your ideas, beliefs, or ways are confronted with a different truth, how do you respond?
